Dublin Event Guide 957: Weekend Escape – Bohemia Flea Market, International Women’s Day, Thursday Lates at National Gallery

March 7th, 2026

Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)

Weekend Escape

Bohemia Flea Market, International Women’s Day, Thursday Lates at National Gallery

Hi!!

It’s hard to ignore the news these days. The world seems to be going through another period where the headlines feel heavier than usual and it sometimes looks like common sense has quietly packed its bags and left the building. Wars, political drama and a daily stream of things that make you shake your head.

And yet, here we are in Dublin looking at another Dublin Event Guide. Not because the rest of the world doesn’t matter, but because the small things close to home matter too. Culture, music, talks, exhibitions and community events don’t fix global politics, but they do remind us that normal life still exists and that people still create, share ideas and meet each other.

The good news for this weekend is that the weather forecast is looking surprisingly decent for once. We might actually get a bit of sunshine and calmer skies. That alone should be enough motivation to leave the house.

So maybe the plan for the weekend is simple: step away from the doom-scrolling for a few hours, explore the city and give your attention to something interesting, creative or just enjoyable. Dublin has plenty going on again this week and as always, plenty of it won’t cost you a cent.

If you have friends or family or colleagues that also enjoy cultural events in Dublin, let them know that they can sign up for the free weekly Dublin Event Guide newsletter at https://getthislink.com/DEGSignup

The working title for my video series on YouTube is the “Better You” videos, they are all about 5-7 minute long about how to better your life. Check out this video series if you want to achieve more in life, but are talking yourself out of it. https://www.youtube.com/@JoergSteegmueller

Donations in March:
EUR 17

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

This week the single wonderful person was William, who helped with a donation. Thanks a lot!  Keeping the Dublin Event Guide going is quite low cost at just EUR 200 per month. I am doing the work and keep it going as good as possible and your help is needed to gather this money. Your support is very much appreciated!

March is starting SUPER slow. One single donation this week won’t get us far on our way to EUR 200 for March. If you have never donated, but are using the Dublin Event Guide regularly, it would be really great if you could join the wonderful supporters, some of them donate year after year to keep the Dublin Event Guide alive.

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that Euro! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 4. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: https://gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via http://www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also https://revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here https://www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to http://www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

And there is more…

+++ INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
International Women’s Day is not a new invention, it has been around since 1911 and the intention was to fight for gender equality, celebrate women’s achievement and raise awareness about discrimination. And while we would like to think we have come a long way, even in our society we are still far away from real equality. And if even a President from a very big country still in 2026 behaves towards women like a caveman, we realise that we still have a long way to go.
International Women’s Day is in some countries a very very big event. But in Ireland it hasn’t taken off as much as for example in Eastern European countries or in African countries.
This year it also falls on a bad day for events. Sunday is not the best day to get people to organise major happenings, so there are definitely not as many things taking place as last year, for example.
HAPPY International Women’s Day to all Dublin Event Guide reading women!

+++ Seachtain na Gaeilge
The Irish Language Festival “Seachtain na Gaeilge” will run from 01-17 March. The website is https://snag.ie/ however all events seem to be on https://sceal.ie/imeachtai/

+++ WORKING IN DUBLIN 1850-1980 LECTURE SERIES
The Dublin Cemeteries Trust, in conjunction with the School of Histories and Humanities at Trinity College Dublin, has announced the “Working in Dublin 1850-1980”-titled Glasnevin Spring Lecture Series 2026.
There will be four lectures in March and April. If you are interested, check the topics out here https://www.histories-humanities.tcd.ie/assets/img/news/DCT_LectureSeriesSpring2026.jpg and then register via booking@dctrust.ie or +353 (0)1 882 6550. It is still a while away, but these sort of talks seem to book out fast at times.

+++ LIVE AID EXHIBITION
Live Aid was a two-venue benefit concert and music-based fundraising initiative held on the same day on Saturday 13 July 1985 in Wembley Stadium in London and in the John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia. The event was organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for relief of the devastating 1983–1985 famine in Ethiopia. The charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” in December 1984 was the start of the project. Live Aid was HUGE and had an estimated audience of 1.9 billion people in 150 nations.
Some of the performers at the concerts were U2, Phil Collins, David Bowie, Queen, Dire Straits, The Who, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Bob Geldof, String, Elvis Costello, Sade, Boomtown Rats, Status Quo, Spandau Ballet.
The National Library of Ireland is showing 70 photos and images from this decade-impacting, momentous event at an exhibition in the National Photographic Archive, Meeting House Square, Temple Bar, Dublin 2, D02 WF85.
The exhibition will be on display at least until March, possibly longer and will be open from 10:00-16:00 every Monday to Sunday (last admission 15:30). Admission is free.
If you are a child of the 80s or missed the concert, but have heard about it since, check the exhibition out!

+++ Dublin City Council Culture Company
Every week, the Dublin City Council Culture Company organises cultural events in venues in Dublin. They are events in addition to the normal events in museums, galleries and other venues. All events are free, but access is by registration only. And these events are POPULAR!! So when I get to checking them out on the Friday before they take place, the most interesting ones are usually already booked out. If you are interested, check them out here https://cultureclubdublin.ticketsolve.com/ticketbooth/shows (This week you only see a few, because every month a new batch is uploaded not in a rolling way, but in a month by month way.)

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get! – Check out the website at https://www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)
